Air Unit Module: The DJI FPV Air Unit is an advanced video transmission module that supports a wireless 5.8GHz digital video signal and 720p/120fps image transmission with a transmission range up to 2.5 miles and a minimum end-to-end latency within 28ms. The Air Unit can be mounted on your racing drone and used with DJI’s FPV Goggles V2 and Remote Controller (sold separately) to transmit video and control flight wirelessly. The Air Unit comes with a wiring harness that needs to be hardwired to your racing drone (there are 6 wires that will need to be soldered). The Air Unit elevates the flying experience of your racing drone with modern innovations; like DJI’s HDL FPV Transmission technology, embedded remote controller receiver, and multi-antenna technology.
- 1080p Aerial Footage: The DJI FPV Air Unit records videos at 1080p/60fps during flight onto a microSD card (sold separately), providing pilots with smooth and clear aerial footage.
- Embedded RC Receiver: Users can wirelessly connect their DJI FPV Air Unit to the DJI FPV Remote Controller without having to purchase additional receivers. This reduces flight preparation time significantly.
- Multi-Antenna Technology: The DJI FPV Air Unit has two antennas, both of which are receivers and transmitters, ensuring broader signal coverage for reliable image transmission.
- Multiple Frequency Channels: The DJI HDL FPV Transmission system and the DJI FPV Air Unit are equipped with eight frequency channels, which allow up to eight drones to fly simultaneously. Each operator has an exclusive channel. This helps to reduce cross-interference and provide an optimal racing experience.
Note: When the DJI FPV Air Unit Module operates for extended periods and reaches a certain temperature, it will automatically enter Low Power mode, in which the frame rate will reduce to 30fps, and the latency may reach 60ms or higher.
Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera: Beyond racing, the DJI FPV Camera (attached to the Air Unit Module) also offers exceptional filming capabilities. A 150° ultra-wide-angle lens creates a dramatic and unique perspective while the 1080p or 720p footage can easily be recorded as video on a microSD card (microSD card slots located on the Air Unit Module and FPV Goggles). Four M2 screws are attached to both sides of the camera, which can be removed and used to mount the camera to your racing drone’s frame and adjusted to the appropriate angle. The DJI FPV Camera provides three camera modes (Racing, Standard and LED mode) that adjust screen brightness and saturation for specific applications.
- Racing Mode: In Racing mode the image contrast increases, helping pilots to distinguish obstacles throughout the course. Racing mode is ideal for most racing situations and delivers images at a higher saturation rate to distinguish brightly-colored objects such as course obstacles.
- Standard Mode: Standard mode rescues color loss and preserves more original details, improving daytime image quality. Standard mode is ideal for capturing content by reducing color loss and preserving original details.
- LED Mode: LED mode increases the color saturation on LED lights and reduces noise during night races, allowing pilots to track the location of their Air Units easily. LED mode enables racers to operate their units easily in low light settings by increasing the color saturation and reducing image noise to help pilots efficiently keep track of their unit’s location.
DJI HDL FPV Transmission Technology: The DJI Air Unit utilizes DJI’s HDL FPV Transmission Technology for a low-latency HD-quality first person viewer experience. DJI HD Low Latency FPV Transmission technology (DJI HDL FPV Transmission) integrates two-way 5.8GHz wireless communication to deliver wireless control over the entire system and a stable, seamless wireless video signal transmission. DJI HDL FPV offers a low end-to-end latency of 28 milliseconds, similar to high-performance analog systems. DJI HDL FPV has a maximum transmission range of 2.5 miles while anti-interference technology brings a reliable feed to the goggles during flight. With this upgraded transmission technology, the DJI HDL FPV offers eight frequency channels, which allows eight drones to fly simultaneously. With each pilot having their own channel, cross-interference is reduced, providing an optimal racing experience.
- 720/120fps Video Transmission: Most analog transmissions provide a latency between 22-35ms. The DJI HDL FPV Transmission features similar latency rates, but pairs that with a smooth 720p/120fps digital HD live view and a transmission range up to 2.5 miles.
- Anti-Interference Digital Transmission: The DJI HDL FPV Transmission technology utilizes a two-way communication system to stabilize signal connections, granting pilots more flexibility while flying through challenging areas.
- 28ms Low Latency: The DJI HDL FPV Transmission technology delivers a minimum end-to-end latency within 28ms and a stunning HD view.
- Eight 5.8GHz Channels: There are up to eight channels depending on the region (FCC: 8, CE/SRRC: 4, MIC: 3). Each channel has a bandwidth of 20 MHz. The default channel is eight and only one pilot at a time is allowed to use this channel. All channels operate under a 5.8GHz frequency.
Note: Most pilots rely on analog video transmission, which can result in poor image resolution and signal interference. On the contrary, DJI’s new HDL FPV Transmission technology ensures a smooth flying experience with a consistently stable signal connection.
