This listing is for a rare NOS GM Approved Accessory set of “radiator covers” for 1942 Chevy passenger car models. The original box is in pretty tough shape, I filled it with sheets of cardboard so it would retain it’s shape, and I have a piece of shrink wrap over the end to make the Approved label easier to read, but that is not stuck to the box, it’s just plastic wrap and it can be removed. The plastic wrap does help keep the end closed though so you can read the tag. You can see it says part number 985810 on it. Also the original shipping tag is on the box and you can see it is dated November 1941, this was manufactured and delivered to the dealer right before the US entered WWII.
The clips would install on the grille, and the covers could be snapped on and off of the grille, generally these were used during cold weather, to block off some airflow to the radiator so the car would warm up faster. The kit also came with a high temp “heater thermostat”, which also came in a GM Accessories box, that box is very nice yet and the valve looks like new, you can see it has the GM stamp, a 1941 date, and the wired on warning tag to only use with permanent antifreeze.
The instructions are clearly readable but the sheet is wrinkled up. The clips are all there and unused, although the black paint has given way to a bit of surface rust in spots on the clips. The actual covers themselves are in good shape, with a bit of wear on the button heads, probably from 80 years of storage.
This is a really rare accessory item, being pre-WWII, also that it’s specific to 1942 models which were only built for a few months before production was shut down for the war, and also these were only typically carried by dealers in cold weather states, so they’re incredibly hard to find, especially with the original box. If you collect GM accessory stuff, this is definitely one to have.
Usually I can ship stuff out within a couple days, but once in a while the shop is busy and it’ll take a bit longer. Let me know if you need this right away and I’ll see what I can do.
Shipping for this item will be $30 anywhere in the continental US. Feel free to email me with any questions. Check out my other listings as I may have other parts from this car.
